Curriculum Vitae
Sofia Pick was born in Cologne-Mühlheim in Germany. Nothing is known about her childhood and youth. She entered the Congregation of the Daughters of Mary, Help of Christians (Don Bosco Sisters) in Eschelbach at the age of 19 on January 29, 1926 and made her first profession in 1928. She was then transferred to Linz in 1930 and made her perpetual profession in 1934. She worked in kindergarten and housekeeping. In 1939, she moved to Gramatneusiedl after several stations.
After a year, we also received the (news) order to leave the house. So we moved into an apartment that good people made available to us. It was the year 1939.
This must have been the time when Sister Sofia Pick arrived in Gramatneusiedl. Although forbidden, the sisters Sofia Pick, Margareta Hofmann and Theresia Dümmler gave sewing and music lessons in a private house. This became known and on August 19, 1942, the police searched the house and interrogated the sisters. Sister Theresia Dümmler was summoned to the Gestapo in Vienna on August 21, 1942 and interrogated for two hours. They were accused of religiously influencing the people and the youth and of 'bringing unrest among the population through their clerical-propagandistic behavior' Under threat of imprisonment, they were ordered to leave Gramatneusiedl within 10 days and not to tell anyone in the population about it.
In order to avoid the prison sentence, Sister Sofia Pick left Gramatneusiedl on 31 August 1942 and was transferred to Ingolstadt-Oberhaunstadt. There she lived to see the end of the war. In 1952, she was transferred to Moers-Hochstraß, where she became superior in 1954. In the same year, she fell seriously ill and died just one year later.
