Julius Kretschmer, called “Ussy”, is born in Vienna and attends the Volksschule and the Gymnasium. After his Matura, he inscribes German and Romance studies at the University of Vienna. In this time he enters the student connection Ottons . The decisive opponent of National Socialism and Austrians joined the Patriotic Front in 1933. In 1935/1936 he completed the supplementary training examination for the Leherbildungsanstalt and becomes a teacher of the folk school.
Julius Kretschmer is present at the Ottonen Executive Board meeting in the back room of Café Votiv on the evening of the occupation of Austria, when they decide to dissolve formally and go to resistance. He is in the organization of Karl Burian as Head of State of Vienna, with Josef Wotypka as alternate. As a result, he engages in the organization and tries to build structures and win new members.
Julius Kretschmer is arrested by the Gestapo on 19.10.1938. He is charged for preparation for high treason and in the main trial of the Volksgerichtshof of 7th. December 1943 to December 9, 1943 sentenced to three years of breeding house. He is released from custody in December 1943, according to his custody.
He escapes the impression of a criminal company by pretending a stomach disorder and organizes the printing of leaflets with the content “Austria awakens!” with the help of employees of the book printer Friedrich Schwab. Every day they go to their printing shop and produce hundreds of such tickets at a trust location that Julius Kretschmer distributes in the dark.
Julius Kretschmer is arrested 14 days before the end of the war. He was warned, but when he escaped in the tram, he was taken to court in Czartoryski-Schlössel, the seat of the SS. He's supposed to be steadfastly executed. Through a sudden bomb attack and the resulting confusion, Julius Kretschmer manages to escape the execution.
After the war, Julius Kretschmer is rehabilitated and works again as a teacher. From 1960 to 1971 he is a federal member of the Austrian Resistance Movement. He died in 1997 in the 90th year.
