Alois Josef Ecker was born in Vienna, the son of the valet Josef Ecker and Anna, née Thurner. He went to elementary school in Vienna and then to grammar school, where he graduated in 1917. In the same year, he was called up for the I. He was called up for World War I and returned home at the end of November 1918. After spending three weeks with the Vienna City Guard, he was transferred to the Vienna State Police Directorate on October 31, 1919.

Statement by the Austrian Federal Chancellery dated November 29, 1947

On March 12, 1938, Alois Ecker witnessed the demise of a free and independent Austria with the invasion of the German Wehrmacht. He was arrested by the Gestapo on March 15, 1938 and deported to Dachau concentration camp on May 24, 1938.

On the intervention of his wife Anna Ecker, he was released on September 20, 1938. He was suspended from his duties and was forced to retire on January 31, 1939. He then found employment at the 'Ostmark Versicherungs-Anstalt'. [Note: The Ostmark Versicherungs-Anstalt was called Bundesländerversicherung before 1938 and after 1945 and has been called UNIQA since 1999.]

Alois Ecker finally died in an explosion during a mission in Maintenon, west of Paris, on 18 February 1944.

After the liberation of Austria, his wife Anna Ecker joined the newly founded Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) and the ÖVP-Kameradschaft der politisch Verfolgten und Bekenner für Österreich. She achieves that Alois Ecker is posthumously promoted to police lieutenant colonel, which is also relevant for the pension assessment. She dies childless 44 years after her husband.
