Curriculum Vitae
After graduating from secondary school in Waidhafen an der Thaya in 1926, Ferdinand Thaller studied law at the University of Vienna. In 1927, he became a member of the student fraternity Norica. After completing his studies and obtaining his doctorate in law, he joined the Vienna Federal Police Headquarters as a police lawyer.
On March 12, 1938, he was on duty at the Vienna-Neubau police station. At 2 pm, four SA men came into the police station and arrested Ferdinand Thaller. When asked why, they reply "Can't you remember us?" and refer to official acts he had carried out on them during the time of the corporative state. Ferdinand Thaller is transferred to the Schmelz police station and subsequently to the police detention center in Vienna 9 (on Elisabethpromenade, Rossauer Lände). He is then released from public service with a minor clearance. Approximately 14 days after his admission, he is brought before a criminal investigator who asks him the reason for his arrest. As Ferdinand Thaller knew just as little about the reason as the interrogating officer, this was recorded and the interrogation was stopped. Without further questioning, Ferdinand Thaller was sent to the Dachau concentration camp on July 16, 1938 and held there until September 20, 1938. After his release, he found employment at the Vienna branch of the "Münchner Verein" insurance company (formerly the "Krankenschutz" insurance company). After the Vienna branch was dissolved, he was declared unfit for military service due to diabetes that broke out after his imprisonment and was conscripted into the "Wiener Radiowerke" from May 1, 1943.
