Curriculum Vitae

Anton Hyross attended the commercial academy in Vienna and was one of the first members of the Borussia secondary school fraternity founded in the Breitensee district on July 3, 1922. After graduating from high school, he worked in banking and joined the postal service in 1927. He soon attained a respected position there. He became chairman of the personnel committee of the Telegraph Directorate.

After the Anschluss, he was arrested on March 12, 1938 and, after a short stay in the police prison, was transferred to the Dachau concentration camp on March 22, 1938. He was released from the concentration camp on September 22, 1938. In the meantime, he had been dismissed from the postal service and was employed by Ostmark-Versicherung (later Bundesländer/Uniqa) in a subaltern position.

On March 12, 1938, Anton Hyross witnessed the demise of a free and independent Austria with the invasion of the German Wehrmacht. He was arrested on the very day of the occupation and, after a short stay in the police prison, was deported to Dachau concentration camp on March 22, 1938. He was released from the concentration camp on September 22, 1938. He was released from the postal service, from which he had been suspended in the meantime, on March 7, 1939. He was employed by Ostmark-Versicherung (later Bundesländer/Uniqa) in a subaltern position.

Immediately after the liberation of Austria and the re-establishment of the Republic in April and May 1945, Anton Hyross returned to the postal service and set up a provisional telephone network in Vienna. He joins the newly founded Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) and the ÖVP Comradeship of the Politically Persecuted and Confessors for Austria.
