Curriculum Vitae

Eduard Grünewald takes place shortly before the end of the war, on the 9th February 1945, the underground student connection Alpinia Innsbruck . Together with other federal and cartell brothers – members of the student association Austria Innsbruck are also active in the underground – he is involved in resistance actions against the NS leaders such as e.g. spreading of strictly forbidden materials [flights of “Weisen Rose” etc.], lubrication actions with nasty slogans or transferring militaryly important information to the allies by means of secret channels. Eduard Grünewald forms the resistance group after contact with Group 05 [for OE = Austria] with his former English teacher at the Humanist High School in Innsbruck Franz Mair Green Forest Fair.

In the middle of April 1945, the Gestapo can lift a part of the Tyrolean resistance groups, and so Eduard Grünewald will also be on the 27th. April 1945 arrested and sent to the Reichenau detention camp after severe interrogation at the Gestapozentrale Innsbruck. On 2 May 1945, the resistance groups in the police associations are able to liberate the imprisoned resistance fighters from the Reichenau camp. On May 3rd, Eduard Grünewald works together with his federal brother Alfred Hirsch a red-white-red flag on the high-rise of the municipal works in the Salurner Straße in the centre of Innsbruck, with heavy fires through the SS, to storm the Tyrolean country house still occupied by the Nazis with other resistance fighters. An official call written by Eduard Grünewald announces the liberation and resurrence of Austria through posters and broadcasting.

We have won the battle for Austria's freedom, now we have to win the peace.
