Curriculum Vitae

Franz Anger was born in Vienna as the legitimate son of a beer carrier [note: assistant to a beer guide] and Josefa, née Zinner. After primary and secondary school, he trained as a butcher. In 1912, he married Barbara Bednar and subsequently had two daughters and a son with her.

Little is preserved about Franz Anger, as the documents relating to him were destroyed by the National Socialists shortly before the liberation of Austria. In the 1930s, however, he was actively involved in politics for Austria's independence and against National Socialism.

On March 12, 1938, he witnessed the demise of a free and independent Austria. He was arrested by the Gestapo on March 13, 1938 and deported to the Dachau concentration camp on June 17, 1938. Due to mistreatment, he died there on 23 August 1938.

His wife Barbara experienced the liberation of Austria in May 1945 and joined the ÖVP-Kameradschaft der politisch Verfolgten und Bekenner für Österreich as a pensioner. She died in August 1960.
