Solfie Walburga Fried was born in Vienna as the legitimate daughter of security guard Johann Ferdinand Fried and his wife Walburga, née Weißenböck. After completing elementary and secondary school, she joined the administrative service of the Vienna police in September 1918 and worked in the Vienna-Floridsdorf district police station. From 1934, the patriotic Austrian became involved in the Vaterländische Front.

On March 12, 1938, Sofie Fried witnessed the demise of free and independent Austria with the invasion of the German Wehrmacht. As early as March 13, 1938, she was suspended from service as 'politically unreliable' and was forced to retire on December 31, 1938. Throughout the II.
