August Lovrek is a pupil at the Konvikt in Salzburg. He attended the commercial academy in Vienna and studied law at the University of Vienna. He is also active in student association politics, takes over the office of federal action leader of the "Black-Yellow Youth" in the Iron Ring, becomes vice president of the Reichsbund and president of the Association of Legitimist Students.

Shortly after the Anschluss, he is arrested and interned for three years, first in Dachau concentration camp and then in Flossenbürg. After his release, he was banned from entering the Ostmark.
