Theodor Franz Szigeti was born in Vienna as the illegitimate son of the day laborer Matthias Szigeti and Philomena Kašperak. After his birth, Matthias Szigeti legitimizes his son, which is why he immediately bears his surname. In 1902, Matthias Szigeti finally marries Philomena Kašperak. After finishing school, Theodor Szigeti learned the trade of electrician and married in 1924.

In the 1920s, Theodor Szigeti probably joined the Austrian Communist Party (KPÖ)
