Curriculum Vitae
Aloisia Kraus, called 'Louise' is born in Jitschin in Bohemia [today: Jičín in the Czech Republic] as the married daughter of the Jewish merchant Jacob Kraus and Ernestine, née Kantor. The Jewish family of eleven ran a business empire in Bohemia. One of her brothers was the later famous writer and publicist Karl Kraus. Nothing has survived about her education. When Louise Kraus was 14 years old, the family moved to Vienna to further expand the business empire.
In January 1893, Louise Kraus married the Jewish general practitioner Julius Drey and moved into a shared apartment at Wipplingerstraße 13 in Vienna's 1st district in 1899. The marriage remains childless. Julius Drey ran an obstetrics clinic alongside his work at the General Hospital.
On March 12, 1938, Louise and Julius Drey witnessed the downfall of a free and independent Austria with the invasion of the German Wehrmacht. With the occupation of Austria, German legislation is adopted and with it the 'Nuremberg Race Laws', according to which Louise and Julius Drey are considered 'fully Jewish'.
Julius Drey falls under the professional ban on Jewish doctors, which is why he has to deregister his medical practice on July 17, 1938. Julius Drey died in 1939 and Louise Drey had to move into a collective apartment at Czerninplatz 4 in Vienna's 2nd district with her sister Emma Fridezko.
On July 22, 1942, Louise Drey and her sister were deported to the Theresienstadt concentration camp
