Curriculum Vitae

After graduating from high school, Alexander Auer studied law at the University of Vienna and then attended the consular academies in Vienna, Paris and Florence. In 1936, he was admitted to the KÖL Starhemberg.

After the Anschluss, Alexander Auer travelled in Italy and what was then Yugoslavia from summer 1938 to August 1939 in order to cure his lung disease and learn foreign languages.

From November 1939 to 25 August 1941, he was imprisoned for links to legitimist resistance groups. On November 24, 1943, he was sentenced to two years in prison by the People's Court, with one year and eight months of pre-trial detention deducted. The reason given was that he had credibly gained knowledge of the highly treacherous enterprise but had not reported it. This indicates that Alexander Auer is said to have had knowledge of the legitimist resistance group "Müller-Thanner".

In the case of Auer, there is no evidence that he actively campaigned in favor of Otto von Habsburg in any way. [...] On the other hand, he had received credible knowledge of Thanner's highly treacherous plans [...]. Thanner had told him about his visit to Otto von Habsburg and about the orders he had received.
