The Gruppe Müller-Thanner, named after the Graz Chamber of Labor functionary Johann Müller and Erich Thanner, was legitimistically oriented. This group, which had been active since the fall of 1938, was partly recruited from the Catholic Landmannschaften (KÖL) and was active in all districts of Ostmark
with the exception of Tirol-Vorarlberg

Of particular importance was the prelate Jakob Fried, member of the K.Ö.H.V. Amelungia, K.Ö.St.V. Kürnberg and K.Ö.H.V.
