Curriculum Vitae

Fritz Remy was born in Menzelen (North Rhine-Westphalia). After graduating from the humanistic grammar school in Emmerich in 1921, he entered the Canisianum in Innsbruck as a late entrant. He completed his philosophical and theological studies there from 1925 to 1929 and joined the student fraternity Austria Innsbruck in 1928. He decided to become a diaspora priest and was ordained in Bautzen Cathedral (diocese of Meissen) in 1930. He worked as a chaplain in Chemnitz and Gera for eight years.

On August 1, 1938, he was installed as the second priest of this young diaspora parish in Markranstädt. Because of his generous help for Polish prisoners of war, he was arrested on November 25, 1939, taken to Sachsenhausen concentration camp on March 14, 1940 and then transferred to Dachau concentration camp.
