Klagenfurt Airport
Klagenfurt Airport was founded in 1914 as a military airfield. In 1925, the Kärntner Luftverkehrsgesellschaft was founded with the help of the city of Klagenfurt, Klagenfurt banks and Österreichische Luftverkehrs AG and was taken over by the latter with all its facilities in 1927. The first scheduled flights to Venice, Ljubljana and Vienna were soon established. Around 1935, Paul Graf Scapinelli's Gut Annabichl was still located on the site. However, the estate had to make way in the course of the expansion.
The airport was taken over by the Luftwaffe of the German Wehrmacht in 1938 and an aircraft pilot school was set up there. After the war in 1951, it was reopened for civil aviation.
