Redemptorist College Leoben

In 1834, a Redemptorist hospice was established in Leoben. The revolution of 1848 led to the dissolution of the religious community and the Fathers did not return until 1853, continuing the construction of a church and monastery that had begun earlier, so that the monastery church in honor of St. Alphonsus could be occupied on November 9, 1854. The monastery was a mission house and retreat center and also temporarily housed the novitiates of the Redemptorist Order.

On November 9, 2014, the Redemptorist Church of St. Alphonsus was handed over to the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Austria. The former monastery premises are now home to a student residence run by Akademikerhilfe.
