Franz Schöps attended the Realgymnasium in Vienna VI and was a member of the Leopoldina Gmünd secondary school fraternity from 1931. After graduating from high school in 1934, he completed his one-year voluntary service in the Austrian army. As a student, he is secretary of the Vienna-Mariahilf district organization of the VF.
On 12 March 1938, he is arrested and transferred to the Dachau concentration camp
