Josef Grumbeck attends the teacher training college in St. Pölten. There he became a member of the Aggstein "teachers' association" in 1925. In 1928 he was employed as a primary school teacher in Kobersdorf, in 1931 in Scheibbs and later in Pöchlam. From 1935, he took on the position of secondary school teacher in the town of Haag.
After the Anschluss, he was dismissed from the teaching profession as a known monarchist and sent to prison in Scheibbs. His transfer to Dachau concentration camp
