Maurycy Moses Sontag was born in Lviv as the legitimate son of Samuel Sontag Hitnik and Reisel, née Topf. Nothing is known about his childhood and youth. 1912
Maurycy Sontag becomes a foreign traveler for a trading company. The family moves into an apartment at Liechtensteinstraße 56 in Vienna's 9th district. In 1930, the marriage between Maurycy Sontag and Ite Beile 'Jetty' Sontag broke up and he moved into an apartment in Vienna's 2nd district.
On March 12, 1938, Maurycy Sontag witnessed the demise of free and independent Austria with the invasion of the German Wehrmacht. With the occupation of Austria, German legislation was adopted and with it the 'Nuremberg Racial Laws', according to which Maurycy Sontag was considered a 'full Jew'.
On October 2, 1939, he was deported to the Buchenwald concentration camp, where he was murdered on February 19, 1941. His ashes were brought to Vienna, where he was buried.
