Curriculum Vitae

Walther Kamschal attended secondary school in his home town of Graz and was accepted into the Guelfia [now K. Ö. St. V. Markomannia-Eppenstein-Graz] secondary school fraternity in 1925. After graduating from high school in 1928, he studied philosophy and became a member of the Carolina student fraternity in 1929. During his studies, he was beaten up by a member of the Cheruskia fraternity after a fraternity party in 1929 and was taken to hospital covered in blood.

As he was unable to finish his studies for financial reasons, he took on various jobs to earn a living.

On May 1, 1934, he was offered a job at Böhler AG in Kapfenberg. He happened to be passing by and witnessed when Chaplain Franz Eibel was fatally injured in a bomb attack on June 23, 1934. Eibel sinks into Walther Kamschal's arms, receives medical treatment, but succumbs to his serious injuries. Walther Kamschal is also involved in the VF.

After the Anschluss, Walther Kamschal is arrested on March 12, 1938 because of his political views and beaten up on the same day on Kapfenberg's main square to the jeers of the population. He is transferred to the police prison in Graz, from where he is released on November 2, 1938. He then works at Lapp-Finze AG in Kaisdorf for a job as an accountant. In 1942, he was drafted into the German Wehrmacht and deployed to the Eastern Front. He was able to return home early due to being seriously wounded.
