Josef Marte is born as the son of the peasant and Vorarlberg's land-tag member Josef Marte. After the National School in Nenzing he completed the Gymnasium in Feldkirch in 1906. He then begins studying at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Vienna for the faculty of teaching in German and French and joins the student association Norica. From 1908 to 1910 he studies in Freiburg/Switzerland and becomes a member of Teutonia Freiburg. He then goes to the University of Innsbruck, where he completed his studies in 1911. In 1911/12 he completed the one-year volunteer year at the 4th Tyrolean Kaiserjägerregiment. After that, in 1913 he will take the course examination for the subjects German and French, later also for Latin.
Before Josef Marte can enter his profession, the First World War begins. He was convened and served until 1918 in his regiment war service (Last grade: Lieutenant of the Reserve)
After the war, Josef Marte is at the Oberrealschule in Innsbruck, 1919 at the Realschule in Dornbirn, 1920 at the Realschule in Graz and 1920 to 1922 at the Bundeserziehungsanstalt Graz-Liebenau. From the school year 1922/23 he is professor at the Bundesgymnasium in Bregenz.
Josef Marte joins the Christian-Social Party and joins the VF from 1933. For this reason, in 1934 he is appointed as a representative of the legally recognized churches and religious community in the Vorarlberger Landtag, to which he belongs from 1934 until 12 March 1938. In 1934, he chose him as his country-day vice president. At the same time, he is also vice-president and councillor of Bregenz from 1934 to 1938.
After the connection, Josef Marte must be on 12. In March 1938 a search for a house was made. He is removed from his political functions and released from his post at Bregenzer Gymnasium. 1938/39 and 1943 to 1945 he is a partially employed teacher at the real school in Dornbirn. As a former reserve officer, he only had to complete a four-week course at the German Wehrmacht at a driving replacement department in Graz.
In 1945, Josef Marte was rehabilitated and appointed Director of the Federal Gymnasium Bregenz, which he exercises until his retirement in 1952. In 1950 he dressed the function of a national school inspector for a short time.
