Curriculum Vitae
Wilhelm Schmied grew up in Vienna-Favoriten. After attending elementary school and lower secondary school, he transferred to the teacher training college in Vienna-Landstraße (Kundmanngasse). During this time, he joined the Rhenania secondary school fraternity.
Wilhelm Schmied's original wish to study medicine could not be realized due to the early death of his parents. Due to the economic situation at the time, Wilhelm Schmied was unable to work as a teacher after completing his A-levels in 1925 and became head of an after-school care center at the Favoriten parishes of St. Anthony Padua and Mary Queen of Peace (Pallottines). He also attended a two-year course in public accounting at the University of Vienna. It was not until February 1, 1930 that he found a job in the accounting department of the Ministry of Education.
After the invasion of the German Wehrmacht, Wilhelm Schmied was dismissed from service as politically unreliable and had to do military service in the German Wehrmacht in 1943/44.
In 1944, the "illegal" and secretly operating Cartel Presidium (board) of the Mittelschüler Kartellverband met and discussed the re-establishment of the MKV after the end of National Socialism. As a result, Wilhelm Schmied convenes a meeting of the Vienna MKV associations on September 8, 1945, where he is elected provisional chairman of the cartel and chairman of the Vienna City Association.
In 1946, Wilhelm Schmied is rehabilitated, works as head of the auditing group of the Ministry of Education and, from 1960, as official director in the personnel department of the presidium. Between 1945 and 1957 he was deputy chairman of the ÖAAB and between 1954 and 1959 a member of the provincial parliament and local councillor in Vienna. He retired in 1970.
