Curriculum Vitae

Johann Anton Gustav Brunner was born in Vienna as the legitimate son of Johann Brunner, a clerk, and Elisabeth, née Nöhrer. After elementary school, he attended the Realschule Wien VI [today: BRG6 Marchettigasse], where he graduated in 1930. He then enrolled at the University of World Trade [today: Vienna University of Economics and Business] and graduated in 1936.

In the same year, in September 1936, he started working for the Vienna Chamber of Commerce. At the same time, the staunch Austrian and opponent of National Socialism became involved in the press department of the Vaterländische Front. There he tried to coordinate the campaign for Austria's independence and the defense against National Socialism in the media.

On March 12, 1938, he witnessed the demise of a free and independent Austria with the invasion of the German Wehrmacht. On August 31, 1938, Johann Brunner was dismissed from the Vienna Chamber of Commerce at the express request of the Vienna Reich Governor's Office. He then works for two companies until he joins the financial administration in October 1939. However, he was drafted into the Wehrmacht on May 20, 1940. In 1942, he married Karoline Gartner.

Johann Brunner experienced the liberation of Austria in May 1945 as a war casualty. He then resigned from the tax authorities and founded a chemical wholesaler with branches in Vienna and Linz. He becomes involved with the ÖVP-Kameradschaft der politisch Verfolgten und Bekenner für Österreich. He married a second time in 1970.
