Curriculum Vitae

Ludwig Staszysyn was born in Vienna as the legitimate son of Ludwig Staszysyn and Marie, née Renger. After primary and secondary school, he trained as a merchant. Between 1913 and 1918, he was a soldier in the First World War.

After the defeat of Austria-Hungary, the break-up of the Dual Monarchy and the expulsion of the Habsburg dynasty, he became an independent merchant in Vienna. He marries Anna Kryschon, but the marriage remains childless. From 1931, he worked as a commercial agent and civilian guard at Air Fleet Command 4 and was critical of National Socialism. During this time, his wife died.

On March 12, 1938, Ludwig Staszysyn witnessed the demise of a free and independent Austria with the invasion of the German Wehrmacht. After the death of his wife, he moves in with Eugenie Fischer.

In early 1941, Ludwig Staszysyn expresses criticism of the National Socialist regime, whereupon he is sentenced to six months' imprisonment for 'homophobia'. He served his sentence between February 11, 1941 and August 11, 1941.

I'm now waiting for the revolution, then I have the prospect of immediately becoming a senior officer, then I'll visit certain gentlemen. The Germans are potato-eating barbarians. The unified system cannot hold up because it is built on the points of bayonets. I was and remain an Austrian.

Viktor Cervicek, who was present at the inn, then called in Josef Rosenberger, a police officer, and denounced him to the Gestapo. Ludwig Staszysyn was arrested a second time by the Gestapo on October 2, 1941 and sentenced to eight months' imprisonment for 'homicide' at the special court on February 12, 1942.

As Ludwig Staszysyn was a 'repeat offender', he was not released from prison and was deported to the Auschwitz concentration camp on May 19, 1942. He was murdered there on September 2, 1942.

The urn containing his mortal remains was sent to his partner and Ludwig Staszysyn was buried at Vienna's Central Cemetery on March 17, 1943.

His partner Eugenie Fischer witnessed the liberation of Austria&nbspand the re-establishment of the Republic. She joins the newly founded Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) and the ÖVP-Kameradschft der politisch Verfolgten und Bekenner für Österreich. She survived her partner by 34 years.
