Curriculum Vitae

On the night of the Anschluss, Hans Dallinger's home is searched by SA men from Ried, who are mainly looking for weapons. The next day, members of the Hitler Youth confiscate all the documents of the Christian-German Gymnastics Club, whose gymnastics director and commander of the gymnastics team is Hans Dallinger's father Johann.

Hans Dallinger has to interrupt his attendance at grammar school in Ried to do Reich Labor Service and is subsequently drafted into the Wehrmacht. He was wounded during the Battle of the Bulge in the winter of 1944. From the reserve military hospital [St.Antonius-Hospital] in Gronau/NRW, he walked to Ried.

Together with the youth chaplain Jakob Pramhas (1911-1976) and three other comrades-in-arms, he hoisted the flag on the early afternoon of 3 May 1945. In a daring move, he raised the white flag on the tower of the parish church in Ried under the church clocks in the early afternoon of May 3, 1945, as the US army from Aurolzmünster, Upper Austria, reached the city limits to signal that they could take Ried without a fight. Members of the SS storm the church tower to give the "cowardly surrenderers their just punishment". Hans Dallinger and the two activists were able to save themselves in the "lantern", the highest point of the church tower, where Hans Dallinger, among others, tried to fend off the attackers with an iron bar, but they were no longer able to reach them.

After the war, Dallinger was able to take his Matura exams on June 18, 1946 and then begin his studies at the Faculty of Law at the University of Vienna. On October 9, 1946, he was accepted into the Kürnberg student fraternity in Vienna. He interrupted his studies and completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter with his uncle. After passing his journeyman's examination in 1953, he continued his studies in Innsbruck and graduated there on June 14, 1957, before becoming a lawyer.
