Curriculum Vitae

Franz Loiskandl joined the Nibelungia St. Pölten secondary school fraternity in 1929. After graduating from grammar school in St. Pölten, he joined the Lower Austrian provincial government in 1937 and was assigned to the Waidhafen a. d. Thaya district welfare council.

His rejection of National Socialism during his various activities in patriotic organizations meant that he was imprisoned in the Gestapo prison in St. Pölten for a few days after the Anschluss on 16 March 1938 and then in the regional court in Vienna. Among other things, he was charged with "suspicion of anti-state activities and hostile journalistic activities against the N.S.D.A.P. (leaflets of various newspaper articles)". As a "fierce opponent of the N.S.D.A.P.", he is also said to have "mistreated" National Socialists, according to the reasons for his arrest. His employment was also terminated when he was arrested.

On September 25, 1938, Franz Loiskandl was transferred to the Buchenwald concentration camp. After his release from prison on May 3, 1939, he was unable to find work: "it was not possible for me to get back into the work process and I was glad to have been called up to the Wehrmacht on February 1, 1940." - This is how he describes his situation in his CV. He was "preferably deployed in the East", was wounded several times and was then taken prisoner of war by the Americans on May 1, 1945.
