Curriculum Vitae
August Mutz graduated from grammar school in Klagenfurt and, after completing his A-levels in 1933, began studying classical philology at the University of Graz to become a teacher. He joined the student fraternity Carolina Graz in 1933.
After the Anschluss, he was arrested on 8 May 1938 due to his involvement in the student council at the University of Graz (at times also its chairman) and was remanded in custody at Klagenfurt District Court until 1 June 1938. After his release and his father's early retirement, he had to interrupt his studies and work as a student trainee. At the beginning of 1941, he was able to pass his teaching exams in Latin and Greek and complete his traineeship at the Academic Grammar School in Graz. From 3.5.1941 to 1.9.1943 he was drafted into the German Wehrmacht. He then taught at the Tegetthoff-Gymnasium in Marburg (Lower Styria).
