Curriculum Vitae

Rupert Mayer attended the Realgymnasium in Kufstein and was accepted into the secondary school fraternity Cimbria Kufstein in 1920 (soon after it was founded). In 1924, he joined the university fraternity Vindelicia, which was still based in Hall in Tirol. Because of his special services to the fraternity, he was awarded an honorary ribbon in 1927. In 1925, he also joined the secondary school fraternity Sternkorona Hall. In 1927, he went to Innsbruck to study law.

Afterwards, he was a trainee lawyer in Salzburg. He is drafted to serve at the military registration office and the Salzburg military district command of the German Wehrmacht at the "Roter Krebs" hotel. A resistance group was formed here around 1942, which Rupert Mayer joined. On September 11, 1944, this group was disbanded and its members arrested and subsequently charged with preparation for high treason, subversion of military power and aiding the enemy. In the indictment of March 3, 1945, this resistance group is described as a "block of subversive forces", whose members systematically intercepted, discussed and disseminated enemy radio broadcasts and carried out propaganda for the re-establishment of an independent Austria. In the case of Rupert Mayer, it is explicitly mentioned that he had declared himself an opponent of National Socialism for religious reasons and had therefore joined the resistance group. Due to the end of the war, he was never sentenced.
