Margarete Rada was born in Vienna in 1890, the daughter of a dispatcher. She attended the teacher training college in Vienna and graduated in 1909. After two years of teaching, she obtained a certificate of qualification for elementary school and, in 1918, for secondary schools.

In 1924, she enrolled at the University of Vienna to study philosophy and classical philology and obtained her doctorate in 1930. The subject of her dissertation was: 'The maturing proletarian girl. A contribution to environmental research.' During this time, she joined the Vereinigung katholisch-deutscher Hochschülerinnen Wien. Between 1934 and 1938, she is a member of the Austrian Federal Cultural Council and active in the Vaterländische Front. She becomes a secondary school principal.

In these functions, Margarete Rada experiences the occupation of Austria with the invasion of the German Wehrmacht.
