Curriculum Vitae
Hans Jilek is active in the "Akademischer Rede- und Leseverein christlich-deutscher Studenten" [Academic Speech and Reading Association of Christian-German Students], founded in 1902, whose members played a key role in the founding of the Amelungia student fraternity. He only joined the Amelungia at the age of 24 in 1932. He was also the leader of the Catholic-German Student Association [KDSB], which was part of the Reich Federation of Catholic Youth.
After completing his secondary school leaving certificate in 1925, Hans Jilek graduated in law in 1932 with a doctorate. He then completed his court clerkship and also studied history at the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Vienna, where he was awarded his doctorate in 1940.
In 1933, he moved to the Federal Chancellery and joined the Amtliche Nachrichtenstelle [ANA]. At the same time, he was in charge of the VF organ "Neues Leben" and held an important position in the Austrian press between 1933 and 1938.
After the Anschluss, Hans Jilek was arrested on March 19, 1938 because of his position in the Ständestaat. After his release on April 28, 1938, he is unemployed and is forced to retire on January 31, 1939 with three quarters of his severance pay. On February 26, 1940, he is ordered to enlist in the German army. He is taken prisoner of war, from which he returns home in October 1946.
