After working briefly in the Zwettl Abbey administration, he was secretary of the Weitra District Chamber of Farmers (Lower Austria) from 1926 to 1934.

In 1934, Leopold Babitsch was appointed director of the Styrian Farmers' Association. Due to this position, he was appointed a member of the Federal Economic Council on November 1, 1934, and remained a member until the Anschluss in March 1938. During this time, he came into contact with the Graz CV and was accepted as an honorary member of the student association Babenberg Graz on 15 May 1936.

After the German Wehrmacht invaded Austria, Leopold Babitsch was dismissed, placed under police supervision and banned from the Gau. He took up a position with the Heiligenkreuz Abbey administration and was drafted into the German army in 1942.
