After completing his legal studies, Friedrich Meznik joined the tax authorities. He was transferred immediately after the Anschluss for political reasons and became a member of the newly founded "Ing. Unger" resistance group in May. On February 9, 1939, he was arrested together with four other members of the group and detained until February 1940. After his release, he was drafted into the Wehrmacht and transferred to France. Here he joined the ETAPES resistance group in the French Resistance. After the liberation of France by the Allies, he was in charge of radio broadcasts for Austria at the American headquarters in Paris.
