Curriculum Vitae
Alfons Übelhör attended the Realgymnasium in Vienna 17 and studied law in Vienna, Graz and Paris after graduating in 1925. In 1925, he was accepted into the Norica student fraternity and later joined the Carolina Graz student fraternity. After gaining his doctorate in 1931, he joined Österreichische Radio Verkehrs AG (RAVAG), became a member of the Literary Department and in 1932 a civil servant in the Scientific Department.
After the Anschluss, he was dismissed without notice on March 30, 1938, but found work in the Übelhör family's metal casting factory. From 1939, he was a member of the Kastelic-Scholz-Lederer resistance group (Großösterreichische Freiheitsbewegung [GÖFB]). On August 28, 1940, he was arrested following the denunciation of confidant Otto Hartmann and remained in custody until April 29, 1942, first in the police detention center in Vienna 9 and from July 1941 in the prison in Anrath near Krefeld/Rhineland. Five house searches are carried out. From 1942 to 1943 he was under police supervision and was unable to find employment. On December 7, 1944, the People's Court in Vienna sentenced him to 12 months in prison for preparing high treason and expelled him from Vienna. The pre-trial detention (20 months) is deducted from the sentence.
Between 1943 and 1945, Alfons Übelhör is a consultant for the Iron Steel and Sheet Metal Industry business group in Berlin. After being bombed out there, he moved his headquarters to Schwarzenberg (Erzgebirge). He later brought his family with him.
In 1945 he returned to Vienna with his family and became head of the scientific department, in 1954 public administrator and in 1958 program director of RAVAG until his early death. He testifies as a witness at the Hartmann trial in 1947. From 1949 to 1954, Alfons Übelhör was a member of the Federal Council.
