After graduating from high school in 1930, Ernst Robetschek began studying at the Faculty of Law and Political Science at the University of Vienna (Dr. iur. 1936), where he joined the Amelungia student fraternity in 1932. After completing his studies, he joined the Vienna Chamber of Commerce, Trade and Industry. He also worked as a journalist and correspondent for several foreign newspapers. At the Vienna Conservatory, he also took lessons in violoncello and choral conducting.

After the Anschluss, Robetschek was dismissed on March 12, 1938 and took up the profession of tax consultant.

After the war, he immediately became involved in the ÖVP and the Vienna Economic Association. From 1945 to 1949 he was deputy chairman of the provincial group and from 1951 to 1953 chairman of the provincial group.

Ernst Robetschek stood as a candidate in the Vienna provincial parliament elections at the end of November 1945, was elected and, after being re-elected, was a member of the parliament from 1945 to 1953. In 1946, he was elected as one of the chairmen of the municipal council. From 1950 to 1953, he was the city councillor responsible for building authority and other technical matters. He resigns from his position as a city councillor and as a member of the provincial parliament for health reasons.
