Curriculum Vitae

The son of a farmer, Ulrich Sattler attended grammar school in Györ (Raab), where he graduated in the year Burgenland was annexed by Austria. He then studied law in Vienna and joined the Kürnberg student fraternity in Vienna in 1922. Entirely enthusiastic about colour studies, he came into contact with the secondary school fraternity Ostaricia in Vienna and founded the secondary school fraternity Asciburgia Oberschützen and the secondary school fraternity Arminia Mattersburg in 1933. In 1925, he is a key founder of the student fraternity Austro-Peisonia, which becomes the home for Burgenland students in Vienna.

After graduating, Ulrich Sattler works as a lawyer in the Burgenland state service. After the founding of the Patriotic Front, he became the regional youth leader of its youth organizations for Burgenland. From 1934 to 1938, he was a member of the Federal Economic Council as a representative of the civil service.

After Kurt von Schuschnigg's abdication, Ulrich Sattler initially fled to Hungary, but was arrested by the Gestapo on his return at the end of March 1938 and taken to the Eisenstadt provincial court. He remains in custody until June 1938 and is dismissed from the state service after his release; he is also banned from the Gau and takes up a position as a caretaker in Vienna. In 1942 he was drafted into the Wehrmacht and deployed with the FLAK. Three months before the end of the war, he deserted as a corporal and was active in the resistance group around Dr. Jakob Kastelic and Major Biedermann.

After the war, he returned to the service of the province of Burgenland, where he was head of the denazification department. In 1948, he finally became a member of the secondary school fraternity Forchtenstein Eisenstadt, whose revival after the occupation in 1955 he had a decisive influence on. He later worked for various district authorities, most recently as head of the statistics department, and retired as a Hofrat. He is also active as a volunteer in the Austrian Trade Union Federation (ÖGB) and holds various positions in the Austrian Cartel Association (ÖCV).
