Austrian Red Cross Österreichisches Rotes Kreuz
The Austrian Red Cross (ÖRK) is the National Red Cross Society in Austria under the Geneva Conventions and as such is part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement with its headquarters in Vienna. The Austrian Red Cross Society (ÖGvRK) was founded on 14 March 1880 through the merger of local aid associations and is now the largest aid organization in the country. It is recognized and legally protected by the state on the basis of the Red Cross Act, which came into force on 1 February 2008 and replaces the Red Cross Protection Act of 1962.
