After theological training in Graz, Rochus Kohlbach was consecrated as a priest in 1917. He then works as a co-operator in the Styrian towns of Weiz, Leoben and Eibiswald. In 1927 he received his doctorate as Dr. theol. and completed a journalistic additional training at Friedrich Funder in Vienna.
He is co-founder of the 26th Founded in May 1930 Norica Graz. He makes himself a name as a writer and journalist, publishes Novellen, Schauspiele and art guide and becomes an employee of the Grazer Volksblatt, whose director he takes over as editor-in-chief from 1930 to 1938. Then, in 1938, the diocese of Graz calls him to the Kustos of the Diocesan Museum, but he can only do this for a short time, because through his journalistic activity he has created enemies with the Nazis because of his criticism of their politics.
After that, he will be deprived of this office and for three months KZ Mauthausen override. After the arrest, he acts as a Seelsorger in Autal near Graz and St. Martin am Wöllmißberg.
In 1946, he is appointed as a Dornkapitular and works as a Dompfarrer in Graz in 1946–1962, and in 1960–1964 he takes over the direction of the Diocesan Museum. He is buried in the Hirschegg cemetery.
