Curriculum Vitae

Konrad Walden was born the son of a gendarmerie officer and was originally called Mrnak. The name was changed to Walden on October 9, 1920 with the approval of the Lower Austrian provincial government. He attended the Piarist grammar school in Vienna-Josefstadt, but was drafted into the artillery in the final phase of the First World War. After graduating from high school in 1919, he began studying at the Faculty of Law at the University of Vienna (Dr. iur. 1924), where he joined the Norica student fraternity in 1919, the year he began his studies.

Konrad Walden had to earn his degree and therefore worked at Österreichische Creditanstalt from November 1921 (until the end of March 1926). In September 1926, he joined the Financial Directorate for Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland. Due to his outstanding achievements, he was appointed to the Federal Ministry of Finance in 1934.

After the Anschluss in March 1938, Konrad Walden was relieved of his duties and permanently retired (dismissed) on October 31, 1938, with his salary cut in half. He then worked as a freelance commercial agent until the end of the war and was bombed out in October 1944.
