Curriculum Vitae
Adolf Wimmer was born in Oberhollabrunn, the son of a clerk. After graduating from high school in 1921, he trained as a teacher and in 1925 began working as a teacher and educator at the Bundesrealgymnasium Eisenstadt in the Martin barracks. In 1927 he married Angela Ecker from Mariazell. As a teacher and educator at the grammar school in Eisenstadt, he became acquainted with the Forchtenstein Eisenstadt secondary school fraternity and joined it in 1928.
The staunch opponent of National Socialism became a member of the Patriotic Front in the 1930s and campaigned vehemently against the so-called "Anschluss". As a member of the front militia, Adolf Wimmer guarded the Burgenland provincial parliament just a few hours before the German Wehrmacht invaded Austria. On March 12, 1938, he was arrested, forced to retire, banned from the district and, together with his colleagues Johann Nowak and Ludwig Ruzsa, who were also members of the student fraternity Forchtenstein Eisenstadt, formed the first "Putzschar" in Eisenstadt. As the "Putzschar", they were forced to remove pro-Austrian slogans from streets and house walls.
In prison, Adolf Wimmer was abused by the Gestapo to such an extent that he tried to take his own life by slitting his wrists. Due to his mental health condition caused by his imprisonment, he was incapacitated until January 1939 and committed to various mental hospitals. After his release, he lived with his wife in Vienna due to the Gau ban, but was unable to work for another two years. His health only slowly improved.
In Vienna, he experienced the end of the war. After the war, he was rehabilitated and returned to work at the grammar school in Eisenstadt. After Johann Nowak was promoted to provincial school inspector, Adolf Wimmer became head of the Federal Convict at the grammar school in Eisenstadt. He is one of the founders of the Burgenland Sports Union. Adolf Wimmer dies in Eisenstadt in 1955.
