Curriculum Vitae

Rolf Winkler graduated from high school in Klagenfurt in 1939 and went to Innsbruck to study medicine. There, on May 20, 1943, he was accepted into the Austria Innsbruck student fraternity, which was slowly re-forming illegally and operating in secret. Thanks to his zeal, the fraternity soon had many young members again.

He joins the "Mair-Grünewald" resistance group and is seriously wounded by a bullet to the lung when the Tyrolean resistance groups storm the Tyrolean state house, which is still occupied by the Nazis.
