Karl Schmidler was a professor at the grammar school in Bregenz and district leader of the Austrian Young People in 1938. He was dismissed after the Anschluss and arrested in 1940 on suspicion of being the leader of a secret organization (high treason) and sent to Feldkirch District Court. After three months, the case is dropped and he is drafted into the Wehrmacht.

After the war, he is a secondary school teacher and plays a key role in the development of sport in Vorartberg (regional sports advisory board, regional sports school, etc.)
