Curriculum Vitae

Matthias Sebastian Pahle was born in Brixlegg as the legitimate son of railroad official Sebastian Pahle and Elisabeth, née Hornsteiner. He has two brothers and a sister. After elementary school, he attended the Franciscan grammar school in Hall/Tyrol and was accepted into the Sternkorona Hall secondary school fraternity in 1922. After graduating from high school in 1925, he went to Innsbruck to study law and in 1926 was one of the founders of the Nibelungia Hall secondary school fraternity. In 1928, he joins the student fraternity Austria Innsbruck. After graduating in law, he enters the financial service. He marries Hertha Götsch and subsequently has two children with her.

A finance officer, Matthias Pahle is the military leader of the Tyrolean Middle School Students' Association [TMV] of the Middle School Students' Cartel Association [MKV] at the time of the Anschluss. He was arrested in March 1938 and held in protective custody until April. He was only released after the referendum. Unemployed, he enlisted in the mountain troops and served throughout the war, ultimately as a first sergeant. While on leave in 1942, he obtained his doctorate in law.

Matthias Pahle joined the resistance movement and, at the end of the war in 1945, was part of a group of armed resistance fighters who defended Innsbruck's town hall against the SS before the Americans were able to move in.

After the war, he was entrusted with the establishment and management of the customs department of the Innsbruck Financial Directorate.

Matthias Pahle died very early in active service at the age of 47 and is laid to rest in the cemetery in Brixlegg.
