Born in Silesia (Wagstadt/Bilovec), Anton Muxel attended the Mehrerau College near Bregenz and graduated from "Stella Matutina" in Feldkirch. After graduating in 1903, he went to Innsbruck to study philosophy and in the same year joined the student fraternity Leopoldina Innsbruck. He completed his studies in 1907 with a teaching degree in German and Italian. He then entered the teaching profession and worked as a secondary school teacher in Bregenz, Trieste and Kufstein. He took part in the First World War on the southern front as a first lieutenant until he was taken prisoner of war in Italy. After the war, he returned to work in Kufstein.
After the Anschluss, Anton Muxel was arrested here in March 1938 and held prisoner for some time. After his release, he was demoted to assistant teacher and transferred to Bregenz.
