Curriculum Vitae
During his theological studies in Innsbruck, Nikolaus Pfeifauf was accepted into the student fraternity Vindelicia in 1929. He was ordained a priest on July 26, 1934. He then worked as a cooperator (chaplain) in Götzens, Wattens and Schwaz. As chaplain of Schwaz, he witnessed the downfall of free and independent Austria with the invasion of the German Wehrmacht in March 1938.
From April 1, 1938, he taught religion at the commercial academy and women's vocational school in Innsbruck and from September 1, 1940 at the secondary school in Hall and Kufstein.
In April 1941, Nikolaus Pfeifauf's teaching career ended and he became chaplain in Hall in Tyrol in May 1941. In this role, he came into conflict with the Gestapo.
On April 23, 1941, he was imprisoned for 14 days for holding a singing lesson in the church. Because he distributed the famous sermon by Münster Bishop Clemens August Graf von Galen [† 1946], he was arrested again on September 27, 1941 and sent to Innsbruck police prison for over a month.
In 1943, Nikolaus Pfeifauf became parish provost of Scharnitz. In this role, he witnessed the liberation of Austria by the Allies in May 1945.
