Curriculum Vitae

After graduating from LBA Vienna III, Josef Otto Krammer became a one-year volunteer with the Kaiserjägern, then joined the Imperial-Royal State Railways and was called up to the Supreme Audit Office in 1910.

During the First World War, he served with the Imperial-Royal Locomotive Field Railway No. 1 from 1 August 1914 to 28 February 1919 and was discharged as a captain. He then returned to the State Audit Office. He was also a member of the Vienna City Council until 1932.

After the Anschluss, he was forced to retire for political reasons. On 23 August 1944, following the failed assassination attempt on Adolf Hitler, he was arrested by the Gestapo in Vienna as part of an arrest operation against known political opponents of National Socialism - as were numerous other prominent Catholics.
