Curriculum Vitae

Heribert Ziegler studied law at the University of Vienna after graduating from high school. In 1930, he became active in the student fraternity Welfia.

After the Anschluss, he joined the resistance group "German [later Austrian] Freedom Movement" under the leadership of the Klosterneuburg canon Roman Karl Scholz. In addition to the activities in this group, the liaison activities of the secondary school fraternity Arminia Klosterneuburg are also continued in secret after the official dissolution. This mostly took place in Heribert Ziegler's apartment, where, for example, five new members were accepted on January 19, 1940. The Gestapo are able to break up the resistance group thanks to the infiltrated confidant Otto Hartmann. After Roman Scholz was arrested on July 22, 1940, a further 240 people were imprisoned, around 200 of whom were classified as dangerous. Until the trials in 1943, those arrested, including Heribert Ziegler, were transferred to the [Willich-]Anrath prison near Krefeld/North Rhine-Westphalia. The grounds for the verdict of the VGH state, among other things,

"In the case of Heribert Ziegler, it was considered credible that Roman Karl Scholz had influenced the accused, who was seen as weak-willed."

After the war, Heribert Ziegler was given a job at Klosterneuburg Abbey. The first Arminian meeting in December 1945 once again took place in Heribert Ziegler's apartment. Thanks to his efforts, the liaison utensils retrieved from the HJ depot were also saved during the war.
