Curriculum Vitae

Alfred Wastl began studying chemistry and physics at the Vienna University of Technology after completing his A-levels and graduated with a degree in engineering. In 1907, he joined the Rudolfina student fraternity.

During the First World War, he served in the Imperial and Royal Army. Army and was taken prisoner of war in Russia, from which he was able to escape. After the war, he went into teaching. He initially taught at the Catholic Teacher Training College in Vienna-Währing, later at the TGM in Vienna-Alsergrund, where he became director in 1935. From 1933 he was involved in the VF. From 1.11.1934-12.3.1938, he was a member of the Federal Cultural Council as a representative of the vocational secondary schools.

After the Anschluss, he was relieved of his duties and dismissed as director of the TGM on 16.6.1939. Because he had hidden two fugitives in his apartment, he was arrested on May 11, 1939 and remained in custody until June 1939. He was arrested again with a protective custody order on August 7, 1939 and transferred to the Buchenwald concentration camp until the end of July 1940.
