Otto Steckelhuber is of Jewish descent, but baptized Catholic; according to the so-called "Nuremberg Laws" of 14 November 1935, he is therefore considered a half-breed. degree ("half-Jew"). He attended the German grammar school in Bratislava, where he graduated in 1944. He initially had Czechoslovakian citizenship and from 1939 Slovakian citizenship.
A national uprising broke out in Slovakia between the end of August and the end of October 1944. After the German Wehrmacht occupied Slovakia, Jews were once again arrested and deported after a two-year lull. Otto Steckelhuber was also arrested and transferred to the Theresienstadt concentration camp, from which he was liberated after the camp was handed over to the International Committee of the Red Cross on May 5, 1945.
Otto Steckelhuber began studying at the University of World Trade in the fall of 1945, graduating with a degree in business administration in 1951. He then joined the Federal Chamber of Commerce, Department of Trade Policy and Foreign Trade. In 1961, he received his doctorate (Dr. rer. comm.
