Curriculum Vitae

Ignaz Mayr, twin brother of Josef Anton Mayr, graduated from high school in Innsbruck in 1914 and began studying theology there. In 1914, he and his brother joined the student fraternity Austria Innsbruck. In 1915, he enlisted as a soldier in the Kaiserjägern, where he remained until 1918. In the fall of 1919, he became a Jesuit novice and resumed his theological studies in Innsbruck, which he completed in Rome. He was ordained a priest in 1926. He worked as a pastor, retreat leader and congregation president in Vienna-Lainz and Innsbruck.

During the Nazi era, he was detained by the Gestapo for three weeks and then expelled from Tyrol. For seventeen years, he was spiritual director at the seminary in Linz, and for the last sixteen years before his death, Ignaz Mayr worked as Superior of the Sisters of Mercy in Zams.

On July 22, 1985, the funeral took place in Zams, attended by a bishop, 70 priests and the entire convent of the sisters.
