Hans Mayr attended secondary school in Krems and began his studies at the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences after graduating in 1923. He joined the Kürnberg student fraternity in 1923 and later became dairy director.

After the Anschluss, he was immediately dismissed as dairy director and remanded in custody from April 12 to July 15, 1938. After his release, he worked as an employee in an aircraft factory.
